Why we built it #2 – Dash-boarding

11 Jan Why we built it #2 – Dash-boarding

In this series of posts, we explain why we’ve decided to build certain product features at Treeveo. Today we talk about our dash-boarding functionality that is significantly reducing PowerPoint time.

Before I came to Barcelona I worked three years in corporate strategy running a big project. We had periodic meetings with management. Management wanted to have an at-a-glance view of where the project was going. So this meant large PowerPoint presentations with many slides about project progress.

The way we built these presentations was a tedious exercise in PowerPoint making nice dashboards. These dashboards were based on many meetings with core project contributors but also on some Excel data. In some cases, executives had to work with complex PowerPoint templates from consultants to get to the required dashboards, wasting their precious time.

So when we started to develop Treeveo, we decided to build a “dashboard functionality’ using our past experience in these kinds of settings. Now, Inside Treeveo you can generate a dashboard for management reporting in just one click, Then, you just copy-paste your dashboard into PowerPoint. With this feature, you can save yourself a lot of time.

Already we are using this for our first clients. But also to report to our advisory board and in meetings with the Wayra incubator that we are in. I used to spend significant time-per-slide for these kinds of meetings, I now just generate a slide in 2 seconds.

Perhaps, this feature is a classic case of entrepreneurs solving their own problems. Maybe this is also why we’ve prioritized this feature over others. The great thing about the first pilots we are doing with clients, is that they give feedback on what we develop. Not only do they test the usefulness of this feature, they also help us to extend it and make it better.

So now comes the final test… Because we might build something that solves our own problems, but in the end, clients need to verify that we are also solving theirs….
